Senate Dems Reveal $3.5 Trillion Plan To Invest in Health Care, Climate Change - Do You Support It?
Do you support or oppose Democrats' $3.5 trillion budget agreement?
What's the story?
- Senate Democratic leaders have agreed to advance a $3.5 trillion spending plan to enact most of Biden’s social welfare and family aid agenda without Republican votes.
- Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said the package would be in addition to the $579 billion in new spending in the bipartisan infrastructure agreement.
"If we pass this, this is the most profound change to help American families in generations," said Schumer.
What's in the plan?
- Budget Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders (I-VT) had been pushing a $6 trillion measure that added an expansion of Medicare, immigration reform, and an increase in childcare benefits.
- Despite getting trillions less than his original request, Sanders said the agreement is a “big deal” when it comes to “transforming our infrastructure.” The current agreement would expand Medicare to include new benefits like dental, vision, and hearing coverage.
- The party-line package is also expected to include Biden’s proposal for two years of free community college, paid leave, extending the boosted child tax credit, and helping families cover child care costs.
- The deal would also include major funding for clean energy.
- "This is, in our view, a pivotal moment in American history," Sanders said.
"What this legislation says among many, many other things is that those days are gone. The wealthy and large corporations are going to start paying their fair share of taxes, so that we can protect the working families in this country."
- Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), a moderate, said the plan would be "fully paid for" through large business and individual tax increases.

We need to address these issues now. Get off our “wallets” and vote to pass this.
Lifelong democrat, but I oppose this 3T. spending on "infrastructure" . I am tired of "families" getting all the help. What about seniors on limited incomes? What do we get for all the taxes we have paid through our long lives. Rich people are benefiting. Although, I DO want to see corporations and business pay MORE!!! Some pay NOTHING!! NOT RIGHT!! And rich people should pay more too. They got all the tax cut benefits. I didn't get ANY benefits out of the last trump tax cut. Let's get the VOTING RIGHTS ACT PASSED FIRST........WITHOUT REPUBS IF WE HAVE TO.
I believe that placing a price on carbon should be the goal. It is so important to set up a process that clearly designates generating carbon will be costly. The USA and other countries create a constantly increasing carbon load into our atmosphere. Time to change to a cleaner solution for powering our lives.
Our country is falling apart . The more help we give to people, climate and the middle class the better to make us once again viable here and in the world.
Invest in our country instead of billionaires, other countries? Is this even a valid question?
It isn’t enough but lets get it through while we can.
Military spending has remained flat for the past five years while China increasingly menaces the South China Sea region and Taiwan. Further, inflation fires are beginning to rage yet the administration and Congress insist on throwing more trillions of fuel onto the fires. Temporary? Shouldn't we wait and see?
Sen Sanders is correct, the era of Wealthy Corporations and Individuals getting a free ride are done. This Bill will PASS. The Child Tax Credit is being paid out. Americans are getting used to not having to live check to check to raise a.family or pay medical bills. The Texas Three Stooges and the GOP/Trump Party don’t get it - and never will. GOP=No $$$ for the Middle Class.
For far to long, the GOP has chosen not to invest in the working class of this country and our seniors. Under Bush Jr. money was BORROWED from Social Security to pay for Congresses new computer system for their special Healthcare system, and NEVER paid it back. Then they reduced what Medicare covers, leaving seniors on a limited income to pay out of pocket costs of $1700.00 on this limited income. Under Bush Jr. there was a market crash that cut my IRA in half, so now I struggle to pay my medical bills until I reach the out of pocket. I fully support this investment in the people of this country too long neglected!
Hell No the climate changes all the time and has been changing for thousands of years. We either adapt or go extinct like past civilization. And the fucking government needs to stay out of the Healthcare business just look at the VA that’s a mess and it’s government run. These fucking politicians won’t do their jobs what makes anyone think they can run any healthcare system. They need to do their jobs protect this country and it’s people keep our manufacturing here stay energy independent and not rely on foreign countries for anything.
Please vote in favor of the current bill that is improving Healthcare, and working to stop climate change
Let everyone know we work together. It is just common sense. The more people that can exist humanly effects all of us positively. It is enough of me...me...me... it is us like in United States. it is simple. It is common sense. How are we going to pay for it...good question and we need to find the solutions as we go along... don't discuss the hell out of it before it even given a try. Why is Mark Kelly not featured with a picture?
Doesn't this have amnesty in it? No amnesty.
Democrats have gone mad. Th we y are not spending their money, they are expecting the middle class to pay for that crap.
Time to fix as many things as possible. The focus needs to be on most of the people - not just a few 1% people.
This is satanic! It will lead to complete destruction of the Republic, and quite possibly a modern depression. It is a major move toward complete government dependence.
This bill is a lower priority than the voting rights bill. If Congress can walk and chew gum at the same time, fine. Right now I’m not impressed.
This is the most important legislation of our time. You MUST DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO PASS IT!
Our country is falling apart and we need to fix it. We waste so much money on crazy stuff and ignore really dangerous situations. For instance we have bridges in our country that in danger of failure. If that happens people are going to die. Get a grip
Health care costs and Climate disruption hit all of us. Not only that but they are truly intertwined. Climate disruption impacts our health. A nation that is weak and sick is vulnerable to all sorts of adversities. We either pay upfront for these issues or we pay when people show up in the emergency room or when crops fail [for example]. Increased insurance costs both medical and property are direct results of both. Why not mitigate by spending public treasure upfront. Money spent now before it's too late will save us from future expenses. Ever heard the phrase "penny wise and pound foolish?" It's an "old saw" for a reason. We hear lawmakers scream about too much spending when they ought to be thinking about too little revenue. If we were all taxed FAIRLY we could maybe STOP being "penny wise and pound" foolish. To quote another old saw, " A stitch in time saves Nine!"
